“Meegomuwa” reminds one of a royal cultural heritage meegomuwa the Sinhala name for Negombo. “The village of the honey comb”. It transpired that soldiers of an ancient Sinhalese found an abandoned canoe by the sea shore. It had a bee hive turned into a honey comb. They presented it to the king who in turn gave it to his queen who was at the time with child. It pleased the king and so came the name “Meegomuwa”.
